The Plainfield football team closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 14–7 victory over Martinsville on Friday night. With the win, Plainfield finishes 7–2 overall and 5–2 in the Mid-State Conference. Luke Starnes powered the Quaker offense, rushing for 186 yards on 29 carries. In the first half, Starnes etched his name in the Plainfield record books by breaking the career rushing record previously held by Zane Fakes — a remarkable milestone in an outstanding career. Congratulations to Luke on this tremendous achievement. Zander Nattam led the receiving corps with 9 receptions for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns, providing both of Plainfield’s scores on the night. Defensively, the Quakers were balanced and relentless. Coen Vanerbush recorded 10 tackles, while Blake Larrison and Tyler Simek each added 9, and Mason Mantooth contributed 7. In a mostly defensive battle, Coach Steward’s squad came up with the biggest stop of the game, halting the Artesians at the 2-yard line on 4th down to secure the win. The Quakers now have a week off before returning to action on Halloween night (October 31) when they host New Palestine to open sectional play.
