Sunday Newsletter: Week 2

Welcome back to our Lady Commodore Basketball Newsletter! This week we will recap our scrimmage with Corydon Central on Tuesday, discuss our progress/focus this week and look ahead to games starting next week. Monday we had a significant review day for the team as we prepared for the scrimmage! We spent most of the day reviewing our systems while also installing our pre-game routine. The routine was a bit messy at first, but it allows us to work on specific items within in our offense. For not having everyone available for the scrimmage due to Fall Break, I thought the team preformed pretty well against a very solid team in Corydon Central! Our defense looked very good for it being this early in the season, while our offense at times struggled to find rhythm moving from transition. The scrimmage provided the team with great feedback; it showed us exactly what we needed to work on for the remainder of the week. Looking ahead to next week, we begin our season with two games at home! Monday, November 3rd we have our home opener against a county opponent in Cannelton. We expect them to play a packed in man or packed in 2-3 zone that we will be preparing for. On Thursday, November 6th we play a very physical and veteran Wood Memorial squad. They will press at times but mainly focus on defending in the half-court, we are expecting man defense and a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 half-court trap. They have two returners that hurt us last year a bit in #22 and #32; #22 is great at scoring around the rim while #32 can shoot it well from 3-point land. Thank you all again for your constant support! Tune in again next week for game recaps and a look ahead to upcoming games! - Coach Schaefer
