Trojans Volleyball Continues to Show Growth, Resilience Against Strong Competition

The Owosso varsity volleyball team continued to show its growth and resilience over the weekend, competing against a challenging field that included Lake Fenton, Frankenmuth, Lutheran Northwest and South Christian. For a Trojan team that has navigated significant change and adversity throughout the season, the weekend provided another opportunity to show just how far the group has come. Owosso battled through difficult stretches, continued to compete against quality opponents and came away with a win over a strong team—another encouraging step for a program that continues to build. The progress may not always be reflected in the win-loss column, but it has become increasingly visible in the way the Trojans compete. Junior Breeah Reed continued to be one of Owosso's most versatile contributors, finishing the weekend with 14 kills, 12 digs and four service aces. Reed's impact stretched across the court, contributing offensively while also taking on a significant role in serve receive and the back row. Sophomore middle Aspyn Brock led the Trojan offense with 18 kills over the four matches and continued to develop into a presence at the net. Brock was especially effective against Lutheran Northwest, recording eight kills on 24 attempts while adding two solo blocks and two block assists. Senior Nevaeh LeConte provided an important defensive presence throughout the weekend, totaling 29 digs across the four matches, including a weekend-high 14 against Lutheran Northwest and nine against South Christian. Senior Ady Freeman continued to contribute in multiple areas with 10 kills and 13 digs, while setters Ainsley Lintner and Kristie Caswell combined for 41 assists as Owosso continued to work through different offensive combinations. One of the strongest performances of the weekend came against Lutheran Northwest, where Owosso produced 23 kills, 49 digs and seven total blocks. Reed and Brock each recorded eight kills, while LeConte's 14 digs helped stabilize the back court. But beyond the individual numbers, the weekend represented something larger for Owosso. The Trojans began this season as a group learning new systems, new expectations and, in many cases, new roles. Throughout the year they have faced injuries, lineup changes and adversity, but they continue to show up and compete. The flashes of strong volleyball seen early in the season are beginning to become longer stretches of connected, confident play. There is still work ahead, particularly in finding consistency from point to point, but Owosso continues to demonstrate that it can compete with strong volleyball programs when all phases of its game come together. More importantly, the Trojans continue to play with passion and fight. For a program focused on building something sustainable, that willingness to keep competing through change may be one of the most important signs of progress yet. Owosso now turns its attention back to Flint Metro League play as the Trojans look to carry the confidence and lessons from the weekend into the final stretch of the regular season.
