CORUNNA — Owosso Varsity Volleyball went toe-to-toe with rival Corunna Wednesday night in a tightly contested four-set conference battle, with three of the four sets decided by four points or fewer. The Trojans fell 24-26, 20-25, 25-21, 23-25, but continued to show their fight and growth, refusing to go away after falling behind 0-2 in the match. Owosso came just two points short in a back-and-forth opening set, 24-26, before Corunna took the second 25-20. Facing a potential sweep, the Trojans responded. Owosso fought back to take the third set 25-21, forcing a fourth and shifting momentum back in its direction. The fourth set came down to the final points before Corunna narrowly closed out the match, 25-23. Freshman Aspyn Brock delivered a standout offensive performance for Owosso, leading the Trojans with 17 kills on 29 attempts and an impressive .414 hitting percentage. Brock also added three block assists at the net. Junior Breeah Reed contributed 10 kills, eight digs and two aces, giving Owosso another strong option offensively. The Trojans were aggressive from the service line, totaling 16 aces. Senior Ady Freeman led the charge with eight aces on 15 serves and also anchored the defense with a team-high 14 digs. Freshman Ryder Elwell continued to make an impact in the back row with 10 digs and three aces, while senior Nevaeh LeConte and sophomore Lillianna Schack each added seven digs. Senior setter Ainsley Lintner directed the Trojan offense with 19 assists, while adding five digs and two aces. Owosso finished the night with 35 kills, 57 digs and 16 aces. Although the Trojans came up just short on the scoreboard, Wednesday's match showed another step forward for a team continuing to find its identity. Owosso battled through four competitive sets, responded when its back was against the wall and pushed its conference rival to the final points of the night.
