The Owosso Girls Cross Country team turned in a strong performance Wednesday at Corunna High School, finishing third overall in the Stars Division at the first Flint Metro League Jamboree of the season. Junior Abby Crandell led the way for the Trojans, racing to an 8th-place finish with a season-best time of 20:17.64. Crandell's top-10 performance gave Owosso a strong start at the front of the lineup. Freshman Penny Ewald continued an impressive beginning to her high school career, crossing the finish line in 17th place with a personal-best time of 21:08.34. Junior Summer Walker was the third Trojan across the line, finishing 46th overall with a season-best time of 24:13.20. Fellow junior Miriam Skarich followed closely behind, recording another season-best performance with a time of 24:34.52 to finish 49th. Sophomore Ava Spencer placed 51st overall with a time of 24:38.07, while junior Gracie Ockerman rounded out the Owosso lineup in 53rd place, turning in a season-best time of 24:49.38. With Crandell leading the way in the top 10 and several Trojans recording personal or season-best performances, Owosso earned a third-place finish in the Flint Metro League Stars Division to open its league jamboree schedule. The Trojans will look to continue building on their strong start as they move through the remainder of the cross country season and FML competition. (Photos Courtesy of Voula Erfourth)
