The Owosso Varsity Volleyball team continued to challenge itself against strong competition at the DeWitt Quad, taking on DeWitt, Mt. Pleasant and Fenton in another valuable early-season opportunity for the Trojans. While Owosso is still working to put all the pieces together, the quad provided several encouraging signs of the team's potential. The Trojans showed stretches of strong offensive play, aggressive serving and competitive defense, with the match against Fenton highlighting just how competitive Owosso can be when those pieces come together. Senior Adysen Freeman continued to be a consistent offensive presence for the Trojans, totaling nine kills and four acesacross the three matches while also contributing defensively. Junior Breeah Reed added 11 kills, four aces and six digs, providing Owosso with production in multiple phases of the game. Freshman Aspyn Brock also continued a strong start to her varsity career, recording 10 kills across the quad. Brock was particularly efficient against DeWitt, finishing with three kills on six attempts and a .500 hitting percentage. Owosso's setters Ainsley Lintner and Kristie Caswell combined for 31 assists on the day, while the Trojan back row continued to be tested by strong opposing offenses. Nevaeh LeConte recorded a team-high five digs against Mt. Pleasant, while Madison Elwell, Ryder Elwell, Reed and Freeman all contributed defensively throughout the event. Against Fenton, Owosso's competitiveness was especially evident. The Trojans received four kills each from Freeman and Brock and five from Reed. Lintner also provided a major spark from the service line with five aces, while distributing 11 assists. Early in the season, the Trojans have intentionally put themselves in situations that require them to compete at a high level. The DeWitt Quad was another opportunity to see where the team's strengths are beginning to emerge and where continued development is needed. Owosso has shown it possesses several strong pieces on both sides of the ball. As consistency, communication and lineup chemistry continue to develop, the challenge will be putting those strengths together for longer stretches. The experience gained against programs like DeWitt, Mt. Pleasant and Fenton should serve the Trojans well as they continue working toward the heart of their season.
