A season of wins, hardware, and records all led to Saturday's Indiana Middle State Championships for OHJHXC Golden Eagle Brantley Blair. The Golden Eagle 8th grader had gone undefeated on the season and set a course/meet record at every event he competed at. Competing on the historic LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at Indiana State University Blair once again did not disappoint. Competing "up" in the 47 Team 420+ Individual Big School division to compete for an "overall" State Title (7th & 8th grade combined enrollment of over 400) Blair took control of the field just over a mile in and never looked back. He ran away from the field to become the Middle School State Champion in a time of 9:27.27 over 27 Seconds ahead of 2nd place on the 3000 Meter Course. His time once again set a New State Meet and State Course record. He became the 1st OHJHXC athlete to compete at and win the Middle School State Title. He joined Eastbrook's Josh Neideck as the only Grant County Middle School State Champions as Neideck was the Small school winner in 2009. Blair on the season posted a new Program and Grant County record of 9:12 along with meet/course records at - Oak Hill Maconaquah South Adams Mississinewa IWU New Haven / Huntington LaVern Gibson / State Meet Last spring Blair was the State Runner Up at the Middle School State Track & Field Championships in the 2400 Meter Run just 100ths of a second out of winning. He set also set a State Record in that event as well. Blair will turn his sights towards National level meets in the months ahead.
