One of the most successful and decorated athletes in OHTF program history wrapped up his career in style Saturday as an Indiana All Star with a 1st Place Medal around his neck. After feeling as though his career was over nearly two weeks ago after falling one spot and less than .5 seconds away from qualifying for the IHSAA State Finals Senior Lance Wyrick jumped at the chance to be an Indiana All Star and compete one last time. Wyrick, who was making his 2nd Indiana All Star appearance after being a Junior All Star a year ago, took full advantage of the opportunity helping 1 of 2 Senior 4x800 Meter Relays teams take 1st at the 51st Annual Midwest Meet of Champions held at Hamilton Southeastern. The event held every year the week after the IHSAA State Finals sees the Top 4 Seniors in the State in each event compete against the Top 4 Juniors. The relays are done as co-ed so Wyrick was part of one of two co-ed 4x8 relays representing the Class of 2025 that consisted of himself another male runner and two female runners. Wyrick, who was recently named the 2025 Mark Black Award winner at OHHS, ran the 3rd leg and got the lead for the Team Indiana Seniors. When he was handed the baton Wyrick was in 2nd but within 500 meters had made up a 2-3 second gap, grabbed the lead over the last 200 meters, and handed it off in 1st. The anchor on the relay was Kaelina Matthews from North Central High School who brought home the title for the relay. Matthews was recently named the Marion County Female Prep Athlete of the Year for her success as an Indiana All Star in both Cross Country and Track and her successes on the race track as a race car driver. Wyrick who had taken a large break from training prior to the event still managed to post the fastest split of the day at low 1:59 to help his relay win. Wyrick became just the 5th Golden Eagle athlete to ever win an event at the Midwest Meet of Champions. He joined Michael Moffitt, Alec Samuels, Sammy Sommers, and Owen Jackson as Champions. Along with Lady Eagle classmates Cail Bowlin and Ellie Campbell, who also competed as Senior All Stars, Wyrick helped make it 15 Indiana All Stars for OHTF since 2012. Wyrick, who will be competing at Huntington University next year, wrapped up a stellar career for OHTF as a 2 Time Indiana All Star, 2 Time Outdoor State Qualifier, 10 Time Indoor State Qualifier, 4 Time Indoor and Outdoor All State Selection, 3 Time All Conference Performer, School Record Holder in 3 Events, lead off man for the fastest small school 4x8 relay ever in State History, and ranked 4th All Time in program history in the 800 Meter Run at 1:56. As a great leader he helped lead the OHTF Program to 3 County Titles, 3 Conference, Titles, 3 Sectional Titles, 3 Top 10 Regional Finishes, and a Top 3 Indoor State Finish.
