The OHTF Golden Eagles battled to the very end Friday in the Central Indiana Conference Meet coming from nearly 20 points down to take a 1 point lead late in the meet but fell 4 points shy of their 7th straight Conference Championship. I very talented Mississinewa team won the 1st Conference Track Title in School History with 159 points while the Golden Eagles score an impressive 155 points. A total normally well good enough to win. Eastbrook was 3rd with 94 points. In all the Golden Eagles grabbed 10 All Conference Honors. On the night the Golden Eagles won 6 events and scored 2 athletes in 9 events. Senior Golden Eagle Lance Wyrick and Sophomore Jalen Scott were the only multiple event winners on the night for the Golden Eagles. Wyrick won the 800 Meter Run and anchored the winning 4x800 Meter Run. Wyrick also added a pair of 3rds in the 1600 Meter Run and as the anchor of the 4x400 Meter Relay. Joining Wyrick on the winning 4x8 was Senior Classmate Owen Middlesworth along with Juniors Corban Tippey and Caden Myers. Scott came back from injury and missing the Grant 4 last week to repeat as the CIC 100 Meter Champion and help anchor the 4x100 Meter Relay to a 1st place finish as well as posting the 2nd fastest time in school history and fastest since 2019. Their time of 43.77 was also a New CIC Meet Record breaking the old record established by Mississinewa in 2022. Joining Scott on the relay were Seniors Reese Hernandez, Morshown Cotton, and Seth David. All three provided depth points in the sprints with Hernandez and David going 2-3 in the 200 Meter Dash and Cotton grabbing points in the 100 and as part of the 4x4 relay with Wyrick. Individually Sophomore Luke Elzinga was the Long Jump Champion while Classmate Kyle Brower won the Pole Vault. Senior Drew Elzinga grabbed a pair of Runner Up finishes in the hurdle events taking 2nd in the 100 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles. Luke and Drew joined Cotton and Wyrick on the 4x4 which ran a season best. Tippey had a strong night scoring big points in the 1600 with a Runner Up finish, 4th in the 800, and another Runner Up in the 3200 Meter Run. The Golden Eagles are back in action Monday in a triangular meet at Northfield then compete in the IHSAA Marion Sectional on Thursday May 22nd.
