OHXC Lady Eagles Close Out Successful Season at Regional

The OHXC Lady Eagles wrapped up their 2024 season Saturday competing in the IHSAA New Haven Super Regional at Huntington University. The event which now serves as the Semi State round sees the Top 25 Teams and Top 75 Individuals in this portion of the state compete for 5 Team Spots and 15 Individual Spots for next weekend's IHSAA State Finals. Senior Lady Eagle Audrey Woodard closed out a strong career leading the way with a 92nd place finish in 21:25. Woodard's time while not her fastest this season was 16 seconds faster than her time at Regional a year ago and was better than any time she ran at any point last season. Sophomore Quinn Brunner was 133rd in 22:02. Brunner did not compete in last year's Regional meet. Brunner's time is the 4th fastest of her breakout season. Senior Abby Sneed wrapped up her career and solid final season with a 192nd place finish in 23:27. Like Woodard Sneed was faster both Saturday than she was at any point last season and bettered her own 2023 Regional time by exactly 1 minute. Freshman Lilly Hunt and Junior Lydia Trexler both had great days establishing or matching new personal best marks. Hunt was 197th in 23:38 which ties her PR while Trexler stepping in as an alternate rounded out the Top 5 scoring in 204th in a new PR of 23:50. For the 2nd straight season Trexler established her PR at the Regional meet to close out the season. The shorthanded Lady Eagles finished 23rd Saturday with 583 points. #2 State Ranked Fort Wayne Concordia won the event with 39 points. The Lady Eagles were competing with 2 of their Top 5 scorers out or sick Saturday. Freshman Rossi Skinner was out ill while Sophomore Lilly Snyder fell ill during the event. Junior Kaitlyn Scalf and Snyder rounded out the Varsity competitors in 209th and 229th respectively. It was a season for the Lady Eagles that exceeded expectations as the Lady Eagles improved more collectively from 1 season to the next more than any team in Program History boy or girl. Based off online Statewide Computer Rankings 5 of 6 returning Lady Eagles with Varsity experience drastically improved from a year ago. Brunner posted the biggest improvement in Program History by posting a ranking 2:48 faster than a year ago. The largest prior career improvement by an athlete in the rankings was 1:42 by Margo Hornocker. Woodard posted an improvement of 59 seconds, Sneed 1:11, Snyder 1:15, and Scalf 33 seconds. The average improvement among OHXC athletes from season to season or throughout an entire career is less than 30 seconds. For perspective the largest career improvements for the Golden Eagles on the boys side were 1:57 and 1:49 improvement from Lucas Cates and Chandler Julius. As a result of these improvements the Lady Eagles were able to win a Grant 4 Championship, win a Central Indiana Conference Championship, earn 6 All CIC Honors, advance in the IHSAA Tournament for the 17th straight season and for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons compete at the Super Regional / Semi State round. The collective season for the Lady Eagles ranked 15th All Time in Program History. Woodard ends her OHXC ranked 19th All Time in Program History. Sneed ranks 39th All Time.
