The OHXC Lady Eagles finished a strong 3rd in Saturday's IHSAA Marion Sectional to advance to next Saturday's IHSAA New Haven Super Regional. It marks the 17th straight season the Lady Eagles have advanced in the tournament and the 11th straight year the Lady Eagles have earned the opportunity to compete for an IHSAA State Finals birth. The IHSAA Tournament format changed a year ago with the elimination of the Semi State round. The Sectional round now serves as somewhat of a combination of the old Sectional and Regional round with the Regional next week now serving as what would have been the old Semi State. Yorktown repeated as Sectional Champions with 40 points. With the Golden Eagles 3rd Place finish as well it marked the 1st time in 8 years OHXC did not win a Sectional Championship. Lady Eagle Senior Audrey Woodard and Sophomore Quinn Brunner led the way as both earned Top 20 All Sectional Honors and both earned Top 15 Regional Qualifying finishes. Woodard was 6th while Brunner was 12th. Senior Abby Sneed was a solid 24th. Brunner and Sneed were just off their personal record times. Woodard, Brunner, and Sneed all posted large improvements from a year ago in the Sectional as Woodard dropped over 90 seconds along with improving 16 places. Sneed improved 9 places from 2023 dropping just under 90 seconds as well. Brunner did not run in the 2023 Tournament and broke 22 minutes for just the 2nd time in her career. Sophomore Lilly Snyder like Brunner had an impressive 1st Sectional effort finishing 27th. Junior Kaitlyn Scalf had a strong day finishing 29th to round out the Top 5 scorers. Scalf ran a new lifetime best by 10 seconds in the process. Freshmen Lady Eagles Lilly Hunt and Rossi Skinner rounded out the Varsity in 37th and 45th respectively. The Lady Eagles compete in the IHSAA New Haven Super Regional Saturday October 26th at Huntington University. The Top 5 teams and Top 15 unaffiliated individuals will advance to the IHSAA State Finals.
