For the second time in less than a week the OHXC Golden Eagles traveled South to compete against some of the State's best from South of 465. Tuesday the Golden Eagles competed at a very high level against two of the State's perennial powers Bloomington North and Bloomington South - both State ranked and State Qualifiers a year ago. The Golden Eagles found themselves on the Team Podium taking 3rd with 24 points just 8 behind North and South who tied with 16 with South winning in a tiebreaker. The Golden Eagles were competing in the 1st Annual Bloomington North Charlie Warthan Classic - Hokum Karem. The event was honoring Bloomington Norths recently retired longtime Hall of Fame Coach Charlie Warthan - who OHXC Coach Brunner coached under. The Hokum Karem event features a different format as athletes are paired up and run a 6 mile relay with each athlete running 3x1 Mile. The top 3 pairs from each school score. The Golden Eagle front pair of Senior Wyatt Hart and Freshman Brantley Blair battled right to the end ultimately taking 2nd to a pair of All State athletes from North. Blair posted the fastest split of the day on the rolling hill course with a large hill at the end in 4:46. He also posted the fastest overall time on the time averaging around 4:55 a mile. Blair and Hart together posted a total time of 29:57 over the 6 mile race. Hart posted a Top 5 split and total time on the day as well. One other Golden Eagle pair posted an impressive Top 10 with Junior Josh Clark and Sophomore Graham Arrendale taking 10th in 33:29. Other Golden Eagle finishers were Juniors Christian Smimley and Bret Hueston in 12th. Senior Eli Leak and Junior Gavin Key in 16th. Juniors Grant Melton and Jace Hueston in 22nd and the Freshmen duo of Brekyn Pritchett and Colson Woodard in 24th. The Golden Eagles host the Oak Hill Invitational on Saturday August 29th.
