JHTF Golden Eagles Open Season with Pair of Wins - Fern leads 8th Grade Winning 3 Events, Blair Breaks Program Record in the 2400, Roark Wins 3 Events for 7th Grade

The JHTF Golden Eagles got the 2026 season off to a strong start Monday winning a pair of triangular meets over visiting North Miami and Southwood. The 8th grade won 11 of 13 events scoring 91 points. North Miami scored 17 while Southwood scored 11. The 7th grade won 8 of 13 events to score 74 points with North Miami failing to score while Southwood totaled 32 points. The 8th grade was led by 5 multi event winning athletes - Sam Fern, Brantley Blair, Isaiah Miller, Levinn Leffingwell, and Evan Smiley. Fern led the way winning 3 Events. He individually won the 100 and 200 Meter Dash races while also running on the winning 4x100 Meter Relay. He was joined on the relay by Miller and Leffingwell along with Zane Pierre. Leffingwell added his 2nd win as part of the 4x400 Meter Relay which included Blair and Smiley along with Mason Brown. Blair's night also included a NEW Program record in the 2400 Meter Run as he clocked an impressive 7:00 flat for the event. The previous record was 7:14 which he ran last spring in the Middle School State Meet when he finished 2nd and set a new state meet record along with the champion. Miller added a win in the open 400 Meter Dash while Smiley won the 110 Meter Hurdles. Other event winners for the 8th grade were Colson Woodard in the 1600 Meter Run, Brantley Trexler in the 800 Meter Run, Titus Hale in the Long Jump, and Killian Clark in the Shot Put. The 7th grade was led by 2 multi event winners - Ripley Roark and Ellison Beights. Roark a 6th grader, won 3 events on the night winning the 100 Meter Dash, the Long Jump, and as a member of the winning 4x400 Meter Relay which was disqualified after the event. Joining Roark on the relay were Wesley Hagan - 6th grade, Hunter Ramey, and Caleb Morgan - 6th grade. Beights won the 110 Meter Hurdles and also the 2400 Meter Run. Other events winners for the 7th grade were Cooper Otto in the Shot Put, Tysen Grinslade in the Discus, and the 4x100 Meter Relay consisting of Kaison Bishop - 6th grade, Bryce Blades - 6th grade, Asher Bowlin - 6th grade, and Jaydon Kirkland. The JHTF Golden Eagles are back in action twice this week traveling to Wabash on Wednesday and then at Mississinewa on Thursday.
