Mounties Make a Championship Run at Olivet Tournament! The Varsity Volleyball team was up bright and early Saturday morning as they traveled to Olivet High School for their first of several tournaments this season, and what a day it was! The Mounties opened pool play against Martin High School and quickly found their rhythm, earning a 25-17, 25-12 sweep. The team was able to get everyone into the rotation, and every girl contributed to the win! Teddie Gerrish was stellar at the service line, scoring 17 points and recording three aces. She also led the Mountie offense with nine assists. Malena Herrera was solid at the net, contributing two blocks and three kills. In their second pool-play match, the Mounties swept Lutheran Westland, 25-18, 25-12. Adalyn Mack led the backcourt with eight digs, while MiKenze Pitchford added four digs. Shannon Christner and Kyley Gardner each recorded three kills to lead the offense. Chloe Brewster was outstanding at the service line, scoring 10 points and adding two aces. The final match of pool play brought a tough challenge against Pittsford. The Mounties battled back and forth in both sets but came out on top, 25-22, 25-23. Pitchford was strong at the service line, scoring 12 points for the Mounties, while Christner and Kara Humbarger each contributed five kills offensively. Brewster also came up big in the backcourt with nine digs. An undefeated pool-play performance put the Mounties in first place heading into bracket play! In the crossover quarterfinals, the Mounties faced Lansing Christian. The girls continued their winning ways with another sweep, 25-18, 25-21. Humbarger, Izzy Gibson, and Christner led the Mountie offense with four kills each. Next up was a semifinal matchup against a tough Pittsford team. Once again, the Mounties found themselves in a back-and-forth battle. After dropping the first set, 23-25, the girls showed tremendous fight and bounced back to win the next two sets, 25-22 and 15-11. Humbarger once again led the Mountie offense with six kills, while Gibson and Christner added four kills each. The difference-maker in the match was the Mounties’ serving, as they recorded an impressive 10 aces throughout the three-set battle. After nearly nine hours in the gym, the Mounties earned their spot in the championship match against Delton High School. The long day finally caught up with the Mounties, as they struggled to find their chemistry and looked to be running out of gas. They fell to Delton in two sets, 19-25, 19-25. Despite the final result, it was an outstanding day for Mountie Volleyball! Teddie Gerrish had a tremendous tournament, leading the Mountie offense with 60 assists and eight kills on the day. After a long stretch without playing in a championship match, seeing this group battle their way through pool and bracket play to earn a spot in the finals was a huge accomplishment. The season is just getting started, and the Mounties are already 6-3! There is plenty more volleyball ahead, and this team is showing that they are ready to LOCK IN! Next Up: All three teams travel to Charlotte High School for a tri-match on Monday, August 31. 📍 Charlotte High School ⏰ Start time: 5:00 PM
