Munster Cross Country Opens Season with Strong Team Finishes

Munster girls cross country had a strong showing at the Dave Walker Invitational in Hebron, finishing second in both the varsity and junior varsity races. The varsity girls scored 70 points, just 10 behind team champion Crown Point. Lekha Patel led the Mustangs with a fourth-place finish in 19:14, followed by Aubrey Earnshaw in 11th (20:49) and Sophia Puliaeva in 14th (21:03). Vivian Koncalovic added a 21st-place finish in 21:39. Munster's second-place finish was especially impressive with three of its top five runners out of the lineup. Munster's JV team scored 48 points, finishing well ahead of third-place Lowell. Elsa Mayer led the Mustangs in sixth place (23:34), followed by Rachel Setunge in eighth (23:52) and Evelyn Koncalovic in 11th (24:32). Amelia Franco and Sana Siddiqui also contributed to the team score. The Munster boys finished fourth in both the varsity and JV races. The varsity team scored 121 points, led by Keegan McGee in eighth place (17:25), Noah Cunningham in 13th (17:47) and Robert Covarrubias in 16th (18:05). Thomas Burns, Roan McGee and Timothy Maldonado Jr. also scored for the Mustangs. In the JV race, Jaxson LaPorte led Munster with a 14th-place finish in 20:05. Richard Novak placed 25th, Tristan Estrada was 30th and Greyson Saczawa finished 31st. The Mustangs showed strong depth across both programs, providing a solid foundation as the season continues.
