Boys Cross Country Captures Sectional Team Title, advances to Detweiller Saturday, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys XC Team competed at Lake Land College in Mattoon in the IHSA 2A #1 Sectional. There was one girls varsity race at noon followed by a boys varsity race at 1:00pm. Top 7 teams qualify for the state meet. Top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team also qualify for the state meet. 28 teams competed, with 18 being full teams (at least 5 runners). There were 140 individual finishers. The team placed 1st with 97 points, beating out Taylorville (2nd, 130 points) and Civic Memorial (3rd, 140 points) for the title. In the 56-year history of the program, this is our 9th time winning the sectional meet. The last time we won was in 2021. It is our 20th time qualifying for the state championship. Our scorers were Adam Smigielski (8th), Auggie Gaudio (12th), Tay Gergen (15th), Henry McMurry (31st), and Tate Bode (35th). Top 10 medaled, earning All-Sectional honors. We had one medalist--Adam Smigielski (8th). We keep records of the fastest individual and team times for MSHS at this meet. It should be noted that the location of the meet changes every year. Auggie Gaudio ran the 13th fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 15:40. Tate Bode ran the 25th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 16:13. Adam Smigielski ran the 6th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 15:27. Tay Gergen ran the 7th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 15:43. Full Mahomet-Seymour can be found below. The team's next meet will be the IHSA 2A State meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria next Saturday, November 8th. Boys will race at noon. Thank you for your support. Andrew Walmer
