On Saturday morning, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys XC Team competed at Detweiller Park in Peoria in the Peoria Notre Dame Richard Spring Invitational. The team has been attending this meet since 2000. There were three boys races held--a boys varsity, a boys fresh/soph, and a boys open. 74 teams competed in the varsity race, with 69 being complete teams (5 or more runners). There were 577 individual finishers. The team placed 14th with 496 points. This is our highest placement in the meet since 2021, when the team also placed 14th. Chicago (Lane) was the team champion. Out of the 13 teams that beat us, 11 were 3A, 1 was 2A (Peoria Notre Dame), and 1 was from out of state (Ohio). We compete in 2A in the state series. Our scorers were Henry McMurry (25th), Auggie Gaudio (72nd), Tate Bode (81st), Adam Smigielski (129th), and Tay Gergen (190th). Top 25 medaled. We had one medalist--Henry McMurry (25th). The last time we had an individual in the top 25 was 2018 (Mathias Powell). 59 teams competed in the fresh/soph race, with 49 being complete teams (5 or more runners). There were 414 individual finishers. The team placed 20th. This is our highest placement since 2019. The overall team champion was Chicago (Lane). Our scorers were Caleb Zulauf (83rd), Henry Welch (90th), Kiptyn Fan (149th), Dominic Bruns (150th), and Garen Johnson-Farkhoyan (262nd). Top 25 medaled. We had no fresh/soph medalists this year. 38 teams competed in the open race, with 34 being complete teams (5 or more runners). There were 503 individual finishers. The team placed 16th. The team champion was Chicago (Lane). Our scorers were Jack Van Hoorn (19th), Jackson Koontz (31st), Corban McMinn (59th), Blake Patrick (123rd), and Henry Carpenter (196th). Top 25 medaled. We had one medalist--Jack Van Hoorn (19th). We have only had two prior medalists in the open--Evan Burge (1st) and Garret Williams (6th) in 2016. We keep records of the fastest individual and team times for MSHS at this meet. Henry McMurry ran the 3rd fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 14:50. Auggie Gaudio ran the 7th fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 15:20. Tate Bode ran the 9th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 15:24.
