On Saturday, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys Cross Country team competed in the Richard Spring Peoria Notre Dame Invitational at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Mahomet-Seymour is 2A in a three-class system. This meet has many 3A teams competing. There were three races held today--a boys open race, a boys varsity race, and a boys fresh/soph race. 71 schools competed in the varsity race, with 65 of those schools bringing complete teams (5 or more runners). The team placed 21st in the varsity race. This is the highest the team has placed since 2021, when the team placed 14th. Among 2A and 1A schools, the team placed 2nd behind 2A Aurora (Marmion Academy). Our scorers in the varsity race were junior Auggie Gaudio, junior Henry McMurry, senior Kaleb Kasper, senior Zach Wilcoski, and sophomore Tate Bode. 55 schools competed in the open race, with 47 of those schools bringing complete teams (5 or more runners). The team placed 14th in the open race. This is the highest open team placement we have on the record. Our scorers in the junior varsity race were freshman Tay Gergen, freshman Kiptyn Fan, freshman Henry Welch, freshman Carter Alderks, and senior Gavin Fan. We keep records of the top 25 fastest times run by class for MSHS runners at the Richard Spring Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. Kaleb Kasper ran the 25th fastest MSHS senior time with a 16:25 Auggie Gaudio ran the 11th fastest MSHS junior time with a 15:28. Henry McMurry ran the 17th fastest MSHS junior time with a 15:43. The weather was mild for the open race at 9:10am. By the varsity race at 10:30am, the weather had become quite warm and sunny. We had 14 of our 22 runners run lifetime 3-mile bests today--junior Auggie Gaudio, junior Henry McMurry, senior Kaleb Kasper, senior Zach Wilcoski, sophomore Tate Bode, junior Corban McMinn, freshman Tay Gergen, sophomore Jack Van Hoorn, freshman Kiptyn Fan, freshman Henry Welch, freshman Carter Alderks, sophomore Blake Patrick, freshman Dominic Bruns, and freshman Bernardo Allan Pinto. Next weekend, the team will compete at Illinois Central College in East Peoria in the East Peoria Invitational.
