Quarters MS 4-Urbana 0 Semis MS 2-Herscher 0 Finals MS 7-Bradley Bourbannais 0 Girls soccer had a great tournament run to finish the first 5-0 week of games. The depth of the program has been on display, as we've been able to play 25 different girls over the 5 games since Tuesday. The girls still looked great and fresh in the championship (their 4th game in 5 days) outworking and outlasting every team. The girls opened all three games this weekend with great intensity, scoring a goal in the first 5 minutes of every game. In all three games, the Bulldogs controlled the game and were able to keep possession to neutralize the opposition, often resulting in the other teams dropping 10 or even 11 in to defend. It made it difficult to score in the first two matches. While controlling the flow and neutralizing the other teams attacks, the scorelines looked tighter than the play said it was. The defense and mids were in control all weekend, while the strikers were a threat the other team had to always watch for. The Bulldogs won their quarterfinal matchup with a 4-0 win against Urbana. In the semis, the Bulldogs gave Herscher their second loss of the season with a controlling 2-0 win, seeing only 2 shots against us while the Tigers crowded the box and made it difficult to score. In the Finals, Bradley played a more up and down transition style that plays well into our strengths. The backs and mids absorbed a bit of pressure early but then struck back with pace. Bradley wasn't able to counter our striker's speed throughout the game, leading to a huge 7-0 win for the Bulldogs in the championship. No stats totaled yet for the weekend, but really, the highlight should be that the girls played great team soccer. Everyone did their job, leading to our first Urbana Invite championship since before at least COVID. We're looking to the next game Tuesday at home which will undoubtedly be a big one. A strong Washington group will come to town. They will be looking to follow up their own big win, 7-1, over perennially strong Normal Community.
