Lady Bears Battle Hard in MEC Tournament The Monroe Central 7th grade Lady Bears competed in the MEC Tournament this past weekend, earning a victory in their opening match before falling to a tough Selma team for the second time this week. The Lady Bears started strong against Daleville, pulling out a nail-biting first set before taking control in the second to win in straight sets, 25-24 and 25-10. Leading the way was Alexa Tinsman with 11 kills and 2 aces, while Blakely Burge set the tone with 10 assists and 1 ace. Mabrey Cheesman added 6 assists, 1 ace, and 1 kill, while Ellie Lanter chipped in 4 kills. Delainee Whitehead contributed 3 kills, 2 digs, and 1 ace, with Harper Whitehead tallying 2 kills. Amaryah Lloyd added 1 kill, and Adelyn Pugsley recorded 1 dig to round out the team effort. In their second match, Monroe Central faced Selma, who once again proved to be a tough opponent. Despite strong rallies and gritty defense, the Lady Bears fell 21-25, 20-25. Delainee Whitehead led the charge with 13 digs, 3 kills, and 2 aces, while Alexa Tinsman recorded 7 kills, 6 digs, and 2 aces. Mabrey Cheesman had a well-rounded match with 7 digs, 5 assists, 2 aces, and 1 kill. Amelia Brown added 3 digs and 1 ace, while Blakely Burge tallied 2 assists, 1 ace, and 1 dig. Ellie Lanter contributed across the board with 1 kill, 1 assist, 1 dig, and 1 block. Harper Whitehead added 2 digs and 1 kill, and Adelyn Pugsley chipped in with a dig. The Lady Bears showed grit and determination against tough competition and now stand at 13-4 on the season.
