The Varsity Golden Bear volleyball team traveled to Knightstown today for the Panther Invitational tournament. Teams participating in this tournament were Knightstown, Monroe Central, Milan, Union City, Randolph Southern and Anderson Preparatory Academy. The Golden Bears had their first match again the Anderson Preparatory Academy and started off the day very well going 2-0 with scores of 25-2 and 25-20. The second match of the day was against a very solid Milan High School team. The Golden Bears fought hard in set one but Milan edged that set out and continued on in set two to take this match 0-2 with scores of 22-25 and 8-25. Finishing second place in the pool play, the Golden Bears had to play the second place team from the other pool to finish out the day which was the Indians from Union City. The Golden Bears played this match very well from start to finish taking a 2-0 victory with scores of 25-7 and 25-11. This made the Golden Bears the 3rd place finishers in this tournament of 6 teams. Some impressive stats to note from the day were from: Senior Hadley Hendrickson with 3 aces, 22 kills, 8 receptions, 7 digs and 2 blocks. Senior Shyan Bennett with 8 kills, 19 receptions, 13 digs, 1 block, 2 aces and 1 assist. Senior Sophia Bolton with 11 receptions, 7 digs, 10 aces and 1 assist. Senior Addi Grove with 6 aces, 5 kills, 14 receptions, 2 assists, 7 digs and 1 block. Sophomore Bentley Pegg with 3 aces, 34 assists, 3 digs and 1 kill. Seniors Hadley Hendrickson and Shyan Bennett were named to the All Tournament Team. The Golden Bears will be back in action on Monday night (9/22) at home when they face off with the Raiders from Shenandoah. The JV match is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
