GameChanger Recap: Monroe Central Varsity Bears Come Up Short Against Cowan Varsity Blackhawks By GameChanger Media Monroe Central Varsity Bears fell to Cowan Varsity Blackhawks 8-3 on Tuesday. Cowan Varsity Blackhawks opened the scoring in the top of the third thanks to two walks. Cowan Varsity Blackhawks first got on the board when Savannah Hall drew a walk, scoring one run. Monroe Central Varsity Bears tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to an error, and a steal of home by Kyra Brockman. A single by Laura Walker gave Monroe Central Varsity Bears the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Young singled to center field, which helped Cowan Varsity Blackhawks tie the game at three in the top of the sixth. Cowan Varsity Blackhawks flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on zero hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two. Hall earned the win for Cowan Varsity Blackhawks. The righty gave up two hits and three runs (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out seven and walking four. Kloee Brannan took the loss for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (zero earned) on one hit, striking out two and walking none. Brockman stepped in the circle first for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and three runs (one earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out six and walking five. Walker went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Brockman stole two bases. Monroe Central Varsity Bears stole four bases in the game. Young and Candice Matson each collected one hit for Cowan Varsity Blackhawks. Young, Bryleigh Hiatt, and Hall each drove in one run for Cowan Varsity Blackhawks. Morgyn Fox led Cowan Varsity Blackhawks with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. Cowan Varsity Blackhawks turned two double plays in the game. Monroe Central Varsity Bears will travel to Wes-Del Varsity Warriors for their next game on Thursday.
