Madison-Grant 38, Monroe Central 7 (2024 Sectional, Round 1) The Monroe Central football team saw its 2024 season come to an end Friday night with a 38-7 road loss to Class 1A No. 4 Madison-Grant in the first round of IHSAA Sectional 44 play. The Golden Bears finish the season with a 6-4 record. Monroe Central did get off to a hot start against one of the state’s top defenses. Carter Duncan took the game’s opening kickoff 47 yards, and six plays later, Duncan pitched the ball to Jerimiah Ullom, who ran it into the end zone from 19 yards out. After the extra point, the Golden Bears led the Argylls 7-0 with 8:39 left in the first quarter. The game remained close for much of the first half, as Madison-Grant lost two fumbles — recovered by Levi Pence and Dylan Summers, respectively — but still was able to find its way into the end zone multiple times with a gashing rush attack. At halftime, after a late second-quarter Argylls touchdown, Monroe Central trailed 20-7. But Madison-Grant was able to keep its foot on the gas throughout the second half, scoring touchdowns once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth quarter, as it advances into the next round of sectional play. For the Golden Bears, quarterback Lane Wilson completed 11-of-23 pass attempts for 116 yards with an interception. Ullom led the way with 25 rushing yards and a touchdown before exiting the game with an injury in the second quarter. Duncan was targeted 11 times and caught six passes for 64 yards. Defensively, Peyton Farmer led the way with an unofficial 12 tackles, followed by Elijah Goodspeed (nine tackles) and Julius Ullom (eight tackles).
