6th Grade: 7th Grade: Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears Triumph Over Cowan Blackhawks in Three-Set Battle The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears battled the Cowan Blackhawks in a hard-fought volleyball match, securing victory in three sets (25-19, 24-26, 15-13). In the first set, the Lady Bears established control early, maintaining a steady lead throughout to win 25-19. However, in set two, the Lady Bears struggled to maintain their momentum, narrowly falling short in a close 24-26 battle. Undeterred, the Lady Bears rallied in the final set, narrowly edging out Cowan 15-13 to seal the match. Claire Cheesman was a standout performer, delivering 6 aces and showing her attacking prowess with 5 kills. Haidyn Knott contributed 3 aces and 3 digs, while Mati McConnell added 2 aces and 2 digs. Landry Taylor had a solid defensive effort with 1 dig and made several excellent passes, keeping the Bears in contention throughout the match. Gracie McCreery added 1 ace, and Izzy McGrath contributed 1 ace and a crucial block that kept the pressure on Cowan. All players saw court time, continuing the team’s all-around development as they worked together for the hard-fought victory. This win builds on the Lady Bears' recent momentum as they continue their successful season, improving their record to 6-2. 8th Grade: Monroe Central 8th grade volleyball fell to Cowan last night in a hard fought match-up. The players never gave up and worked together well in a new position rotation. Performance highlights included Lucy Huston with 3 assists, 3 kills, 2 digs, and 1 ace; McKenna Murphy with 6 kills and 3 aces; May Morrison with 2 kills, 2 aces, and 1 dig; Emma Pugsley with 3 aces, 2 assists, and 1 dig; and Ivy Phelps with 1 ace and 1 dig. The Lady Bears will travel to Hagerstown on Tuesday (9/17) for their next matchup.
