7th Grade: Lady Bears Showcase Grit in Comeback Victory Over Jay County In a thrilling three-set match, the Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Jay County last night. After a shaky start, the Lady Bears found their rhythm, prevailing 11-25, 25-23, 15-7. The first set was led by the Jay County Patriots, whose strong serves made it difficult for the Lady Bears to get into a groove, falling 11-25. However, they didn’t let the tough loss shake their spirit. Game two was a battle, with the Lady Bears digging deep. Multiple lead changes kept the crowd on edge, but Monroe Central found their footing, edging out Jay County 25-23. Their determination was evident, as the team fought hard for every point. In the decisive third set, Monroe Central took control early and never looked back. They dominated the final frame 15-7, showcasing their teamwork and resilience. Bristol Goad led the defensive effort with 5 digs, while Claire Cheesman was a force at the service line with 5 aces and added 2 digs. Landry Taylor contributed with 3 aces, 2 digs, and 2 assists, while Izzy McGrath’s 2 blocks and 1 kill were key at the net. Gracie McCreery had a solid all-around performance with 2 kills, 1 dig, and 1 ace, and Callie Grove provided a spark off the bench with the game winning ace. After the match, Coach Grove expressed her pride in the team’s determination: "I couldn't be prouder of these girls! They really showed how hard they can work and how much they wanted this win! Mental toughness won this set, for sure! Being able to keep your head in it after a mistake is what we have been talking about at practice, and that is exactly where they shined tonight!" This comeback win underscores the Lady Bears' grit and determination, proving they can rise to the challenge when the pressure is on. The 7th grade team is now 3-2 for the season and will be playing at Union City this Thursday night for a county matchup. 8th Grade: Will be updated when received.
