Monroe Central 57, Union City 25 The Monroe Central team used a dominant second half to earn a 57-25 win over Union City in the Golden Bears’ first road contest of the season. Monroe Central (2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, but a pesky Union City squad wouldn’t give in from there, outscoring the Golden Bears 19-13 in an entertaining second quarter. It was all Monroe Central the rest of the way, however, as it outscored Union City 30-6 over the final two quarters. Jerimiah Ullom led the Golden Bears’ offensive attack on the ground and through the air, as he finished the game with 12 rushing attempts for 221 yards (18.4 average) and four rushing touchdowns, as well as two receptions for 46 yards and another score. Quarterback Lane Wilson completed 11-of-15 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, and added a rushing score. Ethan Hunt had 19 rushing attempts for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Carson Siekmann had a receiving score. Peyton Farmer had a team-best six tackles for the Golden Bears’ defense, while he returned his own first quarter blocked punt to the 1-yard line, setting up Monroe Central’s first score of the game. Levi Pence added a fumble recovery for the Golden Bears, who also forced a late Indians safety. Union City also failed to convert a single third down attempt on nine tries. The Golden Bears return to action next week as they play host to North Decatur.
