6th/7th Grade: The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team was defeated for the first time on Monday night, losing to the visiting Yorktown Tigers 36-37 in a nail biter that came down to the final second to decide. The girls faced a hot Yorktown team that built an early 11 point lead but battled their way back to a tie score of 27-27 at the end of the third quarter thanks to their tough defense and aggressive play. Leading the defensive charge for the Bears was Izzy McGrath with 6 blocks to go along with 6 points and Claire Cheesman, who had 3 steals and 4 rebounds to go with 1 point. Lucy Huston contributed offensively with 3 rebounds to go with 2 assists and 7 points. Mila Morris had 3 assists to go with 2 steals and 14 points. Landry Taylor had 3 assists, 2 steals and 6 points and Gracie McCreery had 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 points. Brynlee Dumpert contributed with tough help side defense to go with her 2 assists. The Lady Bears travel to Cowan on Monday for another conference matchup against the Blackhawks. Go Bears! 8th Grade: The Lady Bears stayed undefeated on the season as they came out hotter than Georgia asphalt to start the game. The team scored their first bucket less than 5 seconds into the game and never looked back after some stellar shooting and stifling defense led to a lead of 32-8 at halftime against a solid Yorktown team. The Bears had 3 ladies in double figures tonight, Aberee Ervin led the team with 14pts to go along with 4 steals, Brynlee Patterson followed up with 13pts and 5 rebounds, after winning the jump ball Oaklei Davis put in a great effort on her way to a Double-Double with her dumping in 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to go along with her 3 blocked shots on the night. Charlee Morris played a solid game while pulling down 7 rebounds to add to her 5 points on the evening. Haidyn Dumpert played an aggressive game tonight scoring 4 points and hauling in 6 rebounds to add to a couple of steals and 4 jump ball tie-ups. It was another great team effort by your 8th grade Lady Bears tonight as the entire team saw playing time once again and moved to 4-0 on the season. Great job ladies!
