The Monroe Central football team suffered a 28-13 home loss to South Adams Friday night. The Golden Bears (1-4) fell into a 21-0 hole by about midway through the second quarter, but gave the Starfires (3-2) a battle the rest of the way. Monroe Central used a seven-play, 67-yard drive to reach the end zone thanks to a six-yard touchdown run by Jerimiah Ullom to make the score 21-7, and were moving the ball on its next drive. But an interception would give the ball back to South Adams, which would find the end zone one more time before the end of the second quarter to go into halftime with a 28-7 lead. The Golden Bears used a forced fumble and fumble recovery, both by Ryder Bowlin, to set up their second touchdown of the night — a 5-yard touchdown run by Ethan Hunt to cut the lead to the eventual final 28-13 score. Quarterback Lane Wilson completed 10-of-29 pass attempts for 154 yards on the night. Hunt led the way with 16 rushing attempts for 83 yards and a touchdown, while Carter Duncan had a team-best three receptions for 79 yards. Bowlin led the Golden Bears’ defense with 12 total tackles, including one tackle for loss and one forced fumble and fumble recovery apiece. Ullom had eight tackles (two for a loss) with a sack. Monroe Central returns to action next week at home against Wes-Del.
