Pioneers Sweep Artesians in Home Opener

The MHS Boys Tennis team opened the home portion of their 2025 schedule on Thursday afternoon with a Mid-State Conference matchup against the Martinsville Artesians. The Pioneers’ varsity squad turned in a dominant performance, earning a 5-0 sweep, while the JV came away with a 3-1 victory. For the varsity, Archer Query cruised at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Baylor Query followed at #2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. At #3 singles, Koleton Wilson rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win. In doubles play, the #1 pairing of DJ Enkhorn and Brady McNally posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 score, and the #2 duo of Jared Kempf and Ben Coffey closed out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win. In JV action, Grayson Furniss claimed #1 singles 8-1, while Abram Haack fell at #2 singles, 2-8. The Pioneers bounced back in doubles play, with Landon Stoner and Gavin Cooper winning 8-1 at #1 doubles, and Zach Meador and Traejen Asher securing an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. Players of the Match were awarded to Archer Query, DJ Enkhorn, and Brady McNally for the varsity squad, and to Grayson Furniss for the JV. With the victory, MHS improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, August 23rd, when they travel to Franklin Community for the Franklin Invitational. Varsity will open against Franklin at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup with Greenfield-Central approximately 30 minutes after the first match.
