The Loogootee Lady Lions needed all five sets against Washington, but after falling behind 2-1 in the match, the Lady Lions responded by taking control of the final two sets to earn a 3-2 victory, 25-14, 20-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-8. The win was Loogootee's third straight and improved the Lady Lions to 15-7 on the season. Loogootee started the night with its best set of the match, controlling the opener for a convincing 25-14 victory. Washington responded quickly, however, and the momentum shifted over the next two sets. The Lady Hatchets took nearly identical 25-20 victories in the second and third, turning Loogootee's early advantage into a 2-1 deficit and putting the Lady Lions one set away from a loss. With their backs against the wall, the Lady Lions answered. Loogootee regained control in the fourth set and pulled away for a 25-18 victory, forcing a deciding race to 15. The momentum stayed with the Lady Lions from there, as they jumped ahead in the fifth and never allowed Washington to make a serious push back into the set. Loogootee closed out the comeback with a 15-8 fifth-set victory, taking the match 3-2. Senior Alaina Diamond once again led the Loogootee attack, putting down 17 kills. Junior Savannah Green added 13 kills, while junior Madison Davis had a strong offensive night with eight. Senior setter Aubrey Gilbert directed the offense with 28 assists, while sophomore Lydia Hawkins added 15. Gilbert also led Loogootee with 14 service points, followed by senior libero Jocelynn Sims with 12 and junior Lauren Nolan with 10. Nolan led the Lady Lions with three aces. Washington kept the Loogootee back row busy throughout the five-set match, with four Lady Lions finishing with at least 16 digs. Sims led the way with 25 digs, Hawkins recorded 19, Gilbert added 17 and Nolan finished with 16. After cruising through the opening set and then dropping two straight, the Lady Lions showed some toughness in the final two sets, outscoring Washington 40-26 to turn a 2-1 deficit into their 15th victory of the season. The Varsity Lady Lions are back in action at the Castle Invite this weekend, where they will begin the morning by playing the host Castle at 10 AM (ET).
