The Loogootee Lady Lions traveled to Springs Valley and came away with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Lady Blackhawks, winning 31-29, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23. The win was Loogootee's second straight and improved the Lady Lions to 14-7 on the season. The tone for the night was set immediately, as neither team was willing to give away the opening set. Loogootee and Springs Valley battled well beyond the normal 25-point finish, with the Lady Lions eventually surviving the extended set 31-29. Loogootee was able to carry that momentum into the second, creating more separation and taking a 25-18 victory to move within one set of the match. Springs Valley did not go away quietly. Facing a potential sweep, the Lady Blackhawks responded with their strongest set of the night and handed Loogootee a 25-15 loss in the third. That forced the Lady Lions to regroup for a competitive fourth set, and with Springs Valley looking to force a fifth, Loogootee was able to make the plays it needed late to edge the Lady Blackhawks 25-23 and close out the road victory. Senior Alaina Diamond led the Loogootee attack with 15 kills, but the Lady Lions also received plenty of production throughout the lineup. Freshman Taryn Brown finished with six kills, while Savannah Green, Karmen Wilson and Madison Davis each added five, giving Loogootee five different players with at least five kills. The Lady Lions' two-setter attack was nearly even on the night. Senior Aubrey Gilbert recorded 16 assists, while sophomore Lydia Hawkins added 15. Hawkins also had a big night at the service line, leading Loogootee with 16 service points and four aces. Gilbert added 11 service points and two aces, while senior Jocelynn Sims finished with seven service points. Defensively, Sims once again anchored the back row with a team-high 22 digs, but Brown turned in a strong defensive performance of her own with 18 digs. Junior Lauren Nolan added 16 as three Lady Lions finished the night in double figures. The Lady Lions' ability to win the two closest sets proved to be the difference. Loogootee survived a marathon opener at 31-29 and then responded to Springs Valley's third-set victory by taking a two-point fourth set, sending the Lady Lions home with a 3-1 victory and a 14-7 record. JV Completes the Sweep The JV Lady Lions made it another successful night throughout the program, defeating Springs Valley in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17. Fara Fisher led Loogootee with eight service points, while Haylo Harmon and Kensleigh Carrico each recorded seven. Harmon and Carrico also caused problems from the service line with four aces apiece. Harmon led the defense with 11 digs, while the Lady Lion offense received three kills each from Addison Moore and MKenna Gregory. Moore also handed out a team-high six assists, with Carrico adding four. With JV winning in two and varsity taking its match in four, the Lady Lions completed another road sweep and continued a strong stretch late in the season.
