The HS boys tennis team was up and at em' early on Saturday morning as they headed to the northwest to play Sullivan and Terre Haute North. In all, it was a solid day of action for the team as they gained a split, defeating the Arrows 3-2 and falling to the Patriots 2-3. "These are great matches for us to be playing heading into the Sectional," said Coach Bell. "It was a great way for us to bounce back from a tough loss on Friday at Rivet." In match number one for the day at Sullivan the Lions were led by strong play at doubles where Emmett Graber and Gabe Walton secured a 6-3, 6-2 win at #1 Doubles and Carter Downey and Reed Brittain got a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 Doubles. The other win for the Lions came from Knox Jeffers at #3 Singles. Jeffers was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 winner at that spot. #1 Singles Cooper VanHoy lost in straight sets and #2 Singles player Grayson Kluesner dropped a tough three-setter. The Lions then loaded up the white bus and headed North to Vigo County to take on the host Terre Haute North Patriots. The Lions suffered a 2-3 loss, but it was a match that really could have gone either way. The boys were victorious at the top two singles positions. Cooper VanHoy won 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 and Grayson Kluesner won 6-4, 6-3. Knox Jeffers dropped a tough one at #3 Singles 7-5, 1-6, 4-6. Both doubles teams had strong matches. Emmett Graber and Gabe Walton fell 6-3, 2-6, 4-6 and Carter Downey and Reed Brittain lost a heartbreaker 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7). The Lions will open Sectional play on Tuesday at the Rick Graves Tennis Complex in Loogootee. The draw will take place Sunday afternoon.
