The boys HS tennis team headed to the southeastern part for this part of their tour. Stops today included Floyd Central, where the Lions dropped a 1-4 decision, and Lanesville, where they topped the Eagles 3-2. The split ran their record to 9-3 on the season. In the morning match at Floyd Central Cooper VanHoy came away with the lone Lion victory against Blake Scanlon with a 6-4, 6-1 decision at #1 Singles. Even though VanHoy was the sole victor, his other Lion teammates played very tough matches across the board. In #2 Single action, Grayson Kluesner fell 3-6, 4-6 to the Highlander's Ethan Noble. Bryce Christmas dropped his match at #3 Singles to Sergio Periago 6-7 (3-7), 4-6. In doubles action, Emmett Graber and Gabe Walton fell 7-5, 2-6, and 4-6 to Hudson Smith and Kelton Granholm. At #2 Doubles Reed Brittain and Carter Downey fell to Joel Irwin and Gage Christmas 2-6, 6-3, 4-6. The Lions loaded up the buses and headed back towards home, but not before stopping off the interstate at Lanesville. Against the Eagles, VanHoy won again (this time 4-6, 6-2 (10-8), and both doubles teams joined him with wins to give the Lions the 3-2 win. Graber and Walton won 7-5, 7-5 while Brittain and Downey picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win. Grayson Kluesner lost 2-6, 4-6 to Nolin Pearce at #2 Singles and Mitchell Walton dropped his #3 Singles match 2-6, 2-6. The Lions will be back in action this week on Tuesday when they host Vincennes Lincoln.
