Varsity Girls Get a Conference Win

The Loogootee Lady Lions picked up their first varsity win of the season on the road at Northeast Dubois, bouncing back after dropping the opening set to earn a four-set victory. The win was also a milestone for Head Coach McAtee, marking the first victory of her second stint leading the Lady Lions and the 68th win of her Loogootee coaching career. Loogootee (1-2) fell behind with a 20-25 loss in the first set, but the Lady Lions responded in a big way. They won each of the next three sets by identical 25-18 scores to take the match, 3-1. A strong night from the service line helped Loogootee turn the match around. Lydia Hawkins led the Lady Lions with 14 service points and 8 aces. Lauren Nolan and Aubrey Gilbert each added 8 service points. At the net, senior Alaina Diamond powered the Loogootee attack with 18 kills. Hawkins and Savannah Green provided additional offensive balance with 7 kills apiece. Diamond, Karmen Wilson and freshman Taryn Brown also contributed defensively at the net with 2 blocks each. Gilbert directed the offense with a team-high 24 assists, while Hawkins added 14. Senior libero Jocelynn Sims anchored the Loogootee defense with 32 digs, helping keep numerous rallies alive throughout the four-set match. Gilbert added 8 digs and Hawkins finished with 7. The JV Lady Lions also came away victorious, sweeping Northeast Dubois 25-12, 25-23. Fara Fisher and Haylo Harmon led the JV at the service line with 6 service points each. Kensleigh Carrico recorded a team-high 3 aces, while Harmon added 2. Harmon also led the defense with 14 digs, followed by Abbigail Rollins with 9. Addison Moore paced the offense with 6 kills, while Fisher handed out a team-high 9 assists and Carrico added 6. It was a clean sweep on the road for Loogootee, with the varsity Lady Lions responding to an opening-set loss by winning three straight sets and giving Coach McAtee career victory No. 68.
