Junior High Lady Lions Open Season Against Vincennes Clark The Junior High Lady Lions volleyball teams opened their 2026 seasons Tuesday night at home against Vincennes Clark, with the 6th and 7th grade squads starting the year in the win column. The night opened with an exciting three-set comeback by the 6th Grade Lady Lions. The team is led by new head coach and Loogootee alumna Grace Lingenfelter, who takes over a squad of 16 girls this season. After dropping the opening set 13-25, the Lady Lions bounced back in a big way. Loogootee took the second set 25-18 to force a deciding third before finishing off the comeback with a 15-10 victory. The win gives Lingenfelter and the 6th Grade Lady Lions a 1-0 start to the season. The 7th Grade Lady Lions kept the momentum going with a straight-set victory. The 13-girl squad is coached by Jayme Thompson, who has returned to the sidelines for the first time in approximately 10 years. She is joined on the bench by her daughter, Jasye Thompson, who serves as assistant coach. Loogootee controlled both sets, winning 25-14 and 25-17 to begin the year 1-0. The 8th Grade Lady Lions closed out the evening. Coach Whitney Wagoner is “back in the saddle” for her third consecutive season and her 10th season overall leading the program. Wagoner enters the year with a 15-girl roster. The Lady Lions battled Clark down to the wire in the opening set before narrowly falling 23-25. Clark followed with a 25-19 victory in the second set to take the match in straight sets. The 8th grade squad begins the season 0-1. The 7th and 8th Grade Lady Lions will be back on their home court Tuesday, August 25, when they welcome Vincennes Rivet. The 6th Grade Lady Lions will have a little longer wait before their next competition. They return to action Saturday, August 29, when they compete in the Barr-Reeve Invite. With opening night in the books, Loogootee’s three Junior High teams combined to go 2-1, including a comeback win from the 6th grade and a sweep from the 7th grade to get the 2026 season underway.
