Loogootee Lions JH Baseball Hold Onto Victory As Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High Almost Erase 5-Run Deficit

(Mitchell, IN - 4/28/26) - The Loogootee Lions JH Baseball got out to a 5-run lead in the third inning and held on for a 10-8 victory over Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High on Tuesday. Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High closed the gap by scoring on a single and a single. Loogootee Lions JH Baseball opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Loogootee Lions JH Baseball first got on the board when Jackson Lengacher singled, scoring one run. Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the first when Liam Kluesner induced Caleb Gaines to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Jaymason Howard singled, scoring two runs, and Hanz Mabelen drew a walk, scoring one run. Loogootee Lions JH Baseball jumped into the lead in the top of the second when August Weitkamp singled, scoring one run, and Holden Lingenfelter tripled, scoring two runs. Gaines singled to left field, which helped Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High tie the game at five in the bottom of the second. Loogootee Lions JH Baseball took the lead in the top of the third inning after Liam Qualkenbush walked, Eli Graber walked, Weitkamp was struck by a pitch, Lingenfelter grounded out, and Lengacher grounded out, each scoring one run. Kluesner led things off on the hill for Loogootee Lions JH Baseball. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and four runs (three earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking three. Tucker True started the game for Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Lingenfelter and Lengacher each appeared in relief for Loogootee Lions JH Baseball. Lingenfelter went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. True went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High in hits. Leo Wedgewood led Mitchell Bluejackets Jr. High with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Howard stole two bases.
