The Lady Lions took the field last night and delivered a strong performance in their season opener against the North Daviess Lady Cougars. Despite being a hard fought game, they ended up falling short, losing 6-4. North Daviess set the tone early, scoring 2 runs in the first inning, but Loogootee rallied back to take the lead in the bottom of the third. The offense was led by Ava Jeffers, who went 3-4 at the plate, Brynn Lengacher going 2-4 and Chloe Ramsey, Savannah Green, Jade Lawson and Maycee Hembree adding in a hit each as well. In the circle, Savannah Green and Jocelynn Sims came out strong. Savannah pitched 4 and 2/3 innings, recording 3 strikeouts and Jocelynn pitched 2 and 1/3 innings. The pitching duo, combined with the Lions Defense stranded 13 runners left on base for North Daviess. Head coach Josh Franklin praised the team’s effort, saying, “He is extremely pleased with the tempo and effort the girls showed. This is only her first game of the season and we will continue to improve and elevate our level of play as the season continues.”
