The #9 Loogootee Lions fell to the #2 Barr-Reeve Vikings 47-42 on Friday night in front of a near capacity crowd at Jack Butcher Arena. The loss dropped the Lions to 12-4 on the season and 2-1 in the conference. The Lions got off to a good start and led 12-10 at the first break and 21-19 at the half. The difference in the game was the Vikings 18-11 advantage in the 3rd quarter. Both teams scored 10 points in the 4th quarter to make the 47-42 total. "Credit Barr-Reeve. They are a very good defensive team, but I felt like we really beat ourselves with some of our passing decisions in that first 3-4 minutes of the third quarter," said Coach Thompson. "And to their credit they capitalized." "I'm disappointed. We wanted this one. Our kids were very close. We lost by 20 to those guys last year and I felt like we were just totally outplayed all around last season. We had to match or exceed their intensity tonight and we did that, but we have to be sharper," said Coach Thompson. "When you look back at a game like this there are a ton of plays that could go either way. The jump ball at the end of the first half that took the first possession away from us to start the 3rd quarter and then the turnover we had late on a rebound that led to a basket really hurt. If we come out with that, then it's probably a different game as well," said Coach Thompson. AJ Foster led the Lions with 18 points and is now only 11 points away from joining the 1,000 point club. Will Lyon had 11 points including three 3-pointers. Seth Salmon had 7 points and 6 rebounds. Christian Garcia added six points for the Lions. Barr-Reeve won the JV game 57-30. The loss dropped the JV team's record to 6-4. The Lions will be back in action next week as they travel to Shoals on Friday for a make-up game and then host Bloomfield on Saturday at JBA.
