Senior Christian Garcia scored ten points on Tuesday night to help lift the Lions over the visiting Eastern Thunderbirds, but no basket was bigger than his hoop with :06 left on the clock. With the victory, the Lions moved to 4-2 on the season. Senior, AJ Foster led the Lions with 19 points and Will Lyon joined Garcia and Foster in double figures with 11 points. Cooper VanHoy had 7 points and Seth Salmon had two FT to round out the Lion scoring attack. The Lions shot it well, making 8 of 12 3-point FG attempts. "It was a tough game. A lot of credit goes to our kids for grinding it out," said Coach Josh Thompson. "The assistants did a tremendous job of getting our guys ready to play and we made some tough and gritty plays down the stretch. Christian's shot was huge, but the fact that he stopped and popped versus trying to get to the rim was key because their guy was rotating over to take a charge." Thompson had a lot of great things to say about the T-Birds as well. "They are good. Their guards are extremely hard to stay in front of and they both shoot it well," referring to guards Coby Sykes, who had 23, and Kyan Hudson, who was held to 8 points, but had several great passes for assists. "We have to build off of this now," said Thompson. "It was a good win, but now we have to put it behind us and move forward to Washington and Valley this weekend." The JV Lions won their contest 58-34 to improve to 2-1 on the season. Clayton Miller and Noah Hager led the Lions with 14 points apiece. Lucas Helderman added 13. Carter Downey and Chase Miller each added 6. Garrison Graber had 3 and Rhett Whitney added a basket. Both teams will be back in action on Friday night when they travel to the Hatchet House to take on Washington at 6PM.
