On Monday night, the JH teams hosted Holy Trinity at JBA. The 7th Grade team was looking to rebound after getting beat at the buzzer by Forest Park, and the 8th grade was looking to regroup after back-to-back overtime losses. The 7th Grade opened the night with a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, they nearly held the lead going into the half but a three in the final seconds of the half gave Holy Family an 11-9 lead heading into the break. In the third, Emma Downey would tie it, but Holy Family would answer and never relinquish the lead. They would open the game up to a 19-11 lead early in the fourth quarter, before a Lyric Graber three would trim the lead back to five. Holy Family answered quickly with a three of their own, but a pair of free throws from Ayla Hawkins would cut the lead back to six, before yet another Holy Family three. The game ended with a final score of 24-30 in favor of the Saints. The 7th Grade Lady Lions fall to 6-5 on the year, and look to get back on track next Monday at home against Mitchell and Tuesday at Shoals. The 7th Grade Lady Lions were led in scoring by Ayla Hawkins and Emma Downey who both finished with 7, Hawkins also brought down 8 boards, and Downey 7. Lyric Graber and Abby Meyer each finished with a three point basket, Meyer also found 5 steals. Kori Arvin and Elin Wade rounded out the scoring with two apiece. In the 8th Grade Game, Holy Family would come out hot as well. They would find themselves tied at 11-11 after the first quarter. The Lady Lions turned up the heat defensively in the 2nd quarter, winning the quarter 13-0, and stretching a nice margin into the halftime of 24-13. Holy Family came out of the half and scored four straight points before the Lady Lions would turn it on. A basket by Taryn Brown, followed by a Sydnee Salmon six point run would open the game back up to a 32-15 lead. Back-to-back buckets by Brown would make it a 36-17 game to start the last quarter. The game ended with a final score of 44-26 in favor of the 8th Grade Lady Lions. The Lady Lions finished with three in double-figures, Sydnee Salmon led with 14 (with 4 rebounds and 3 steals), Addison Moore had 13, and Taryn Brown finished with 11 (and 5 rebounds). Fara Fisher had 4, and Hattie Humerickhouse rounded out the scoring with 2 (to go along with 5 rebounds). The Lady Lions are now 9-2 on the year, and are back in action next Monday at home against Mitchell.
