The Loogootee Lions started the season off with a tough overtime loss to the visiting North Daviess Cougars on Tuesday night at Jack Butcher Arena in front of a great crowd. The Lions led 14-9 at the end of the 1st Quarter and held a 22-21 lead at the break. The Lions extended the lead to 31-28 at the end of the 3rd Quarter and had chances to extend the lead on a couple of occasions in the 4th Quarter. The Lions held a 42-40 lead with the clock winding down before the Cougars drove to the basket and drew a foul. They converted both tries with 3.8 on the clock. The Lions heave at the end of regulation was off and the game went into overtime. The Cougars struck first in OT and the game went back and forth before the Lions trailed 48-44 and they had to foul to determine the final 50-44 count. "I felt like our kids played really hard. They did all the things that we asked them to do from the standpoint of setting the tone and playing with toughness. Credit North Daviess for making a few more plays than we did down the stretch. It was a great game in a great atmosphere. I hate it for our kids because it's one that I feel that we let get away from us, but there are lots of things that we can take from this moving forward," said Coach Thompson. The Lions are back in action on Saturday when they host the Loughmiller Classic. They will play Evansville Day in the second game at 12PM. Owen Valley plays Christian Academy at 10AM. The consolation game will be at 5PM and the championship game will be at 7PM.
