Bloomfield at Loogootee JH Girls Basketball Two talented Bloomfield Lady Cardinals teams made the trip to Jack Butcher Arena on Saturday morning for a pair of matchups with the Lady Lions. 7th Grade: Bloomfield 54, Loogootee 26 The 7th grade Lady Lions battled early, keeping the game within reach through the first half, but a dominant third quarter by Bloomfield proved to be the turning point. After Bloomfield jumped ahead 8–2, an Ayla Hawkins bucket trimmed the deficit to 8–4. The Lady Cardinals responded with a 7–0 run to push the margin to 15–4, and they would close the first quarter up 20–8. Loogootee made a strong push in the second quarter behind a Lyric Graber three, an Alyn Strange free throw, and an Elin Wade layup to claw back within 20–14. The Lady Lions went into halftime trailing 25–17—the closest the score would be the rest of the way. Bloomfield exploded offensively in the second half and pulled away for a 54–26 victory. Loogootee 7th grade drops to 4–3 on the season and will return to action Monday night in the new Activities Center against South Knox at 6. 8th Grade: Loogootee 41, Bloomfield 33 The 8th grade matchup, an annual, highly anticipated meeting, once again lived up to its reputation for intensity and high-level play. Loogootee started fast, with Sydnee Salmon opening the scoring at the line and Brylee Bateman finding Taryn Brown for a transition layup to go up 3–0. Brown added two more baskets off strong defensive plays, helping the Lady Lions build a 7–0 lead. Bloomfield answered with four straight, but an Addison Moore buzzer-beater sent Loogootee into the first break with a 9–4 advantage. The Lady Lions dominated the second quarter. Moore buried a three, Salmon converted an and-1 putback, Kensleigh Carrico added an and-1 of her own, and Fara Fisher scored in transition to give Loogootee a 21–7 halftime lead. Loogootee continued its efficient play into the third. Bateman connected with Fisher again to open the half, a Moore steal led to another Fisher basket, Moore knocked down another three, and Salmon added her second and-1 of the morning to extend the lead to 31–11 after three quarters. Brown opened the fourth with a three, and two free throws from Fisher tied the largest lead of the day at 37–16. Bloomfield applied late-game defensive pressure to trim the final score to 41–33, but the Lady Lions maintained control and secured the home victory, improving to 7–0 on the season.
