On Thursday night, the Loogootee Lady Lions hosted the Shoals Lady Jug Rox for their second Blue Chip Conference matchup of the season. After a slow start, the Lady Lions quickly found their rhythm and rolled to a dominant 58–15 victory, improving to 4–0 for the first time since the 2019–20 campaign. Loogootee returns to action Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. as part of the North Daviess boys/girls doubleheader. The night began with an Alaina Diamond three to open the scoring, but Shoals answered with a couple early buckets to take a 5–3 lead. Diamond tied the game with a strong drive, and a powerful and-one finish from freshman Lydia Hawkins put Loogootee on top 8–5—a lead they would never relinquish. A Hawkins score followed by a Diamond layup sent the Lady Lions into the second quarter with a 12–9 advantage. Loogootee controlled the second frame from the jump. A chase-down block from Hawkins set the tone defensively, and on the ensuing possession, a crisp dish from Sophia Toy set up Diamond for a smooth finish to extend the lead to 15–9. An Alexis Heckard three pushed the margin to 20–9, and an Ava Jeffers offensive-rebound putback made it 22–9. Hawkins continued her breakout night with a pair of reverse layups to give Loogootee a 31–11 halftime lead. The Lady Lions dominated the third quarter, pitching a defensive shutout. Hawkins opened the half with a steal and layup, followed by a perfectly executed Hawkins-to-Diamond pick-and-roll. Jeffers went coast-to-coast for a bucket to make it 44–11. To close the quarter, Phoebe Jordan secured an offensive rebound and kicked it out to M’Kenna Gregory, who knocked down a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer, extending the lead to 52–11. Loogootee added to the margin early in the fourth when Jordan found Shaylee Graber in transition and Karmen Wilson scored on a putback to make it 56–11. The Lady Lions closed out the evening with a convincing 58–15 win. Junior Alaina Diamond led the Lady Lions with 20 points and 11 rebounds, earning her fourth double-double in four games. Freshman Lydia Hawkins scored 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting, adding 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Ava Jeffers contributed 7 points and 6 boards, continuing her steady presence inside. The Lady Lions look to keep their unbeaten start alive Tuesday night against North Daviess.
