Lady Lions Roll Past Mitchell, Move to 3–0 for First Time Since 2020 On Tuesday night, the Loogootee Varsity Lady Lions hit the road to face the Mitchell Lady Bluejackets, and took care of business from start to finish. The win moves the Lady Lions to 3–0, their best start since the 2020 season. They return home Thursday night to host the Shoals Lady Jug Rox. The game opened with an Ava Jeffers drive to the rim, but Mitchell answered quickly with a pair of three-pointers to take a 6–2 lead. Loogootee responded behind junior Alaina Diamond, who converted an and-1 to trim the deficit. After a Mitchell free throw, a Diamond fast-break bucket off a Shaylee Graber assist knotted the game at 7–7 late in the first. An inbound layup for Lydia Hawkins and a strong drive from Graber sent Loogootee into the second quarter up 11–7. The Lady Lions caught fire out of the quarter break. A Hawkins-to-Diamond connection, followed by Diamond finding Hawkins inside, stretched the lead to 15–7—and Loogootee never looked back. Hawkins dominated the period with a 10-point second quarter, pushing the margin to 27–7 before a Sophia Toy three made it 30–9 at the half. Mitchell opened the second half with another three, but Loogootee immediately answered. Layups from Jeffers, Diamond, and Hawkins ballooned the lead to 37–13. The Bluejackets hit one more three to make it 37–16, but the Lady Lions closed the door with another strong run, cruising to a 56–18 victory. Junior Alaina Diamond once again led the way, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, her third double-double in three games. Lydia Hawkins poured in a career-high 16 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Shaylee Graber orchestrated the offense with 5 assists and added 4 steals, while Ava Jeffers matched her with 5 steals. Hawkins also tallied 4 steals on the night. The Lady Lions look to stay hot Thursday as they welcome Shoals to Jack Butcher Arena. The Junior Varsity opened the night, and despite being competitive, Mitchell broke it open late winning 18-10. The JV falls to 1-2 on the season.
