Lady Lions Sweep Season Opener at Jack Butcher Arena Loogootee’s 7th and 8th grade Lady Lions opened their seasons in strong fashion on Monday night, securing a pair of wins at Jack Butcher Arena. 7th Grade: Loogootee 33, Pike Central 27 The 7th grade contest was a back-and-forth battle from the start. Loogootee jumped out to early leads of 9–3 and 14–9, but a big 14-point third quarter by the Lady Chargers allowed them to surge ahead 21–20 entering the final frame. The Lady Lions responded immediately. After a defensive stop to open the fourth, Kori Arvin pushed the ball up the floor and found Alyn Strange for the go-ahead bucket, reclaiming the lead at 22–21. Pike Central answered with a layup with four minutes remaining, but Arvin took over again—converting a huge and-one, assisted by Abby Meyer, to give Loogootee the advantage for good. Tied at 25–25, the Lady Lions closed with clutch scoring from Ayla Hawkins, Emma Downey, and Meyer to seal a 33–27 victory and start the season 1–0. 8th Grade: Loogootee 50, Pike Central 12 The 8th grade matchup was all Loogootee from the opening tip. Behind 40% shooting from the field, the Lady Lions exploded to a 17–2 first-quarter lead and extended it to 30–10 by halftime. They never let up, finishing with a commanding 50–12 win. Sydnee Salmon powered the effort with a dominant double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Fara Fisher added 10 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists, while Taryn Brown and Kensleigh Carrico each dished out 5 assists to lead the team in playmaking. Addison Moore finished up with 9 points and Hattie Humerickhouse with 6.
