The Linsly School is pleased to announce the hiring of Anthony “Tony” Sunseri as the new Head Coach of the Cadets Swimming Program. A native of the Pittsburgh area, Sunseri brings decades of experience as both a competitive swimmer and accomplished coach. As a young athlete, he competed on multiple Eastern Zone Championship teams. In high school, he earned WPIAL Championship honors, Pennsylvania All-State recognition, and qualified for United States Swimming Junior Nationals. Sunseri continued his swimming career at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a scholarship member of the Panthers men’s swimming team from 1992-1996. During his collegiate career, he served as team captain, helped lead Pitt to a Big East Conference Championship, and qualified for the prestigious U.S. Open Championships. Most recently, Sunseri served as a coach with the Wheeling YMCA swim program, where he worked extensively with senior-level athletes. Under his guidance, swimmers achieved success at the highest levels of age-group and club swimming, including qualification for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, U.S. Open Championships, Junior National Championships, Futures Championships, and Eastern Zone Championships. He has also coached numerous athletes who continued their careers at NCAA Division I, II, and III colleges and universities. “We are excited to welcome Coach Sunseri to Linsly and have him as our new head swimming coach,” said Athletic Director BJ Depew. “His experience as both a high-level athlete and successful coach speaks for itself. More importantly, he has a proven track record of developing young swimmers and helping them reach their full potential. We are excited for Coach Sunseri to lead our program as we continue to build on the tradition of excellence that has been established here.” Sunseri expressed enthusiasm about joining the Linsly community and continuing the program’s success. “I am honored to join The Linsly School and lead its swimming program,” said Sunseri. “Linsly has a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes as they pursue their goals both in the pool and in the classroom. I am excited to become part of the Cadet family and help build upon the success the program has enjoyed.” In addition to his coaching background, Sunseri earned his law degree from Duquesne University and has practiced law in Pennsylvania and West Virginia for more than two decades. The Linsly swimming program has established itself as one of the premier programs in the Ohio Valley, capturing seventy conference championships combined in men's and women's swimming, including the women’s title this past season. The addition of Coach Sunseri reflects the school’s commitment to providing outstanding leadership and continued opportunities for student-athletes to excel at the highest levels.
