Kienna Simpson Carries LaPorte Varsity Softball Past Michigan City Simpson was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 10 strikeouts in LaPorte’s 19-4 victory over Michigan City on Tuesday at Kesling Park - Softball Facility. Simpson gave up three hits and four runs over five innings while walking four. Michigan City opened the scoring in the first after Ann Sawyer homered to left field, scoring two runs. LaPorte flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring eight runs on six hits to take the lead, 8-2. A single by Megan Zolvinski, a ground out by Addi Hill, and a single by Madi Squire helped LaPorte extend their early lead in the second. LaPorte added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Zolvinski walked, Jersey Worthington walked, Simpson singled to center field, Hill hit a sacrifice fly, and Michigan City Varsity Wolves committed an error, each scoring one run. LaPorte scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to center field by Shayla Sorg. LaPorte accumulated 14 hits in the game. Squire led LaPorte with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Zolvinski collected two hits for LaPorte in two at bats. LaPorte had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Evie Travis, Zolvinski, and Worthington led the team with two bases on balls each. 2B: L. Surowiec, M. Squire 3B: A.
