The Slicers were not just on today, they were on fire and the IHSAA Boys 2025 Sectional Championship Meet! LaPorte won three events, made State Cuts left and right, and broke two LP High School records! The Slicers opened the meet with a State Cut in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing second in 1:35.38 with: Roman Garay (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). They made the state cut by 1 1/2 seconds and are less than a second off of their school record from last year. The same quartet of swimmers also made the state cut in the 400 Freestyle Relay, while breaking a 30 year old LP High School record! Their time of 3:11.72 got the job done. Abbas Hakim is the 200 Individual Medley Sectional Champion, winning in a time of 1:57.15, nearly 3 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Hakim was also runner up in the 100 Breaststroke, in a time of 57.55 seconds, which broke his own school record which he set two years ago. Otto Wildhart had a stellar meet. Wildhart won the 50 Freestyle in 21.37, and also won the 100 Butterfly in 50.85 seconds. The Dual Sectional winner is only tenths of a second off of breaking both of those records. Hopefully, he'll get the job done down in Indy. Chaise Adrian, along with going to State in both relays, had outstanding swims in the 200 Freestyle (1:46.20), and 500 Freestyle (4:49.46). Roman Garay, is also going to State in both relays. Garay had lifetime PR swims in his 100 Freestyle (49.32), and 100 Backstroke (54.23). Andrew Hayes finished 5th in diving and had a lifetime PR in the 100 Backstroke, going 58.64. Chase Childers finished 8th in the 200 Free and 15th in the 100 Free. Karter Griffin finished 8th in the 100 Fly and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley, out-touching teammate Cameron Hatala by 0.01 seconds. Hatala also finished 8th in the 100 Breaststroke. James Quadlin had two great swims finishing 7th in the 100 Breaststroke, with a lifetime PR of 1:05.79, and 8th in the 500 Free, going 5:12.58. Milo Jimenez finished 11th in the 200 Free and 10th in the 500 Free. Hugo Luna finished 9th in the 100 Back, and Vijay Pillai finished 13th in the 100 Fly. Marco Serna and Landon Corbett finished 12th and 13th in diving respectively. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Chase Childers, Andrew Hayes, James Quadlin and Karter Griffin finished 6th, in a season best time of 1:37.61. It's been a long rewarding season. The Slicers finished the regular season 17-3, and had an epic Sectional performance. The season isn't over for Wildhart, Hakim, Adrian and Garay, who will all head down to Indianapolis on Thursday for the IHSAA State Championship Meet. It's been an honor coaching this team. As an added bonus, the coaches voted me 'Coach of the Year'. I'm humbled and honored. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
