LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Splits Double Header With Valparaiso

In the first game of the double header LaPorte got the win in dramatic fashion, with a score of 3-2. The game was tied at two when Khalen Matzke singled, scoring the game winning run. The pitching was strong on both sides. The Slicers struck out eight batters in the game. Keegan Ramos earned the win for LaPorte. Ramos came on in relief in the fourth inning allowing two hits, zero runs, striking out four and walking one in three innings of work. Cody Benedict started the game for LaPorte. Benedict allowed four hits, two runs, striking out four and walking one in three innings. Ramos and Matzke each drove in one run for the Slicers. Matzke went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead LaPorte in hits. In the second game the Slicers took the loss 1-4. Steven Poe began the game for LaPorte and took the tough loss. Poe surrendered three hits, three runs (none earned), striking out four and walking one over two innings of work. Joey Kirk came on in relief to throw two innings. Kirk allowed one hit, one run, striking out two and walking two. Kirk led the Slicers with one run batted in while going 1-for-3. LaPorte Slicers JV will wrap up its season on Saturday, May 18th, with a tournament at New Prairie. The Slicers first game will be at 11:15 a.m. and the second game will be determined by the outcome of the first.
