La Porte Varsity Softball defeated Merrillville 12-0 on Wednesday at La Porte Softball Complex. La Porte got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Shayla Sorg doubled, Allie Wiencek singled, Jersey Worthington tripled, Lexi Surowiec singled, and Gabby Bush singled, each scoring one run. La Porte added seven in the bottom of the second. Sorg doubled, scoring one run, Wiencek drew a walk, scoring one run, Megan Zolvinski doubled, scoring two runs, Worthington singled, scoring one run, Mia Maxel singled, scoring one run, and Reghan Stephany doubled, scoring one run. Gaby Bush earned the win for La Porte. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six. La Porte accumulated 15 hits in the game. Stephany set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading La Porte with three hits in three at bats. Sorg and Worthington each drove in two runs. Stephany, Sorg, Worthington, Surowiec, Bush, and Maxel each collected multiple hits.
